Educate me on Habitat for Humanity?
Although I think the cause is just and righteous. I’m having issues with them still building houses in a time where we have 1000′s of homes going into foreclosure. I constantly see ads where you can buy homes in foreclosure for pennies on the dollar. Why aren’t these tactics being utlilized instead of cutting down more trees while all these other homes sit empty?
Their challenge is that to buy a home in foreclosure for pennies on the dollar you still need cash. When building a home much of the supplies are donated as is the labor to build it and the new homeowner must contribute a given number of hours as “sweat equity” during the construction. If you know of such a good deal in a foreclosure situation, call your local organization and tell them about it. Maybe they could get some of the cash donated to make the purchase feasible.
