Lookup Foreclosure

How do I get recorded Pre-Foreclosures and Trustee Sales for Los Angeles County.?

I went to the L.A. County Recorders Office last week hoping to find out about properties that had Notice of Defaults recorded on them. So I went to the Real Estate Office there on the 2nd floor and asked an employee where to find properties that had been served with a Notice of Default but was told that I needed to have an address before I could lookup NOD’s. I didn’t understand how I was suppose to magically know what properties were in default. I told him I did not have any addresses so he gave me a business card of a company that sold listings of properties that were in default throughout L.A. County. So how did this company obtain their information? This is what I’m trying to figure out. I don’t want to spend money on infomation that I thought I could get for FREE! If any one out there can tell me how I can do the research myself, I would be forever grateful. Thanks in advance.

There’s a very good overview of how to get listing information for sites entering foreclosure at this real estate site:
