Livingston Foreclosures

I want to move North, Where? Wi vs Mi?

Relocation to the North cant decide Mi (U.P.) or Wi.?
Single mom of 3 kids living in Livingston too long. have no family- kids dad fell-off face of the earth after divorce(5 yrs ago) and now home in foreclosure, bankrupt no job typical of Americans who were honest& worked hard their entire life!So no whining but am I imagining that the U.P. specifically bordering Wisconsin is heaven? We know absolutely no one there but we are alone here-our visits there prove the people are down to earth and welcoming-here they are only your friend when you are at the top-when you have nothing left to give-the end I want real people slower life-communities that help each other but don’t want in all your business just old school I guess.Does anyone know if it exists? And if there are any lonely elderly up there my kids asked Santa for Grandparents-were actually a lot of fun!

My family came from Upper Michigan, and we still have relatives there. I, however grew up in Green Bay, WI and still live there now. My work also takes me all over Wisconsin (I’ve lived in Madison too) and Upper Michigan so I guess you could say I have a good knowledge of both states. I’ll try to give you a short answer so I don’t waste your time, but feel free to email me at jason@tslending.info if you have any questions. I’d be glad to help.

My personal opinion is the people are very much the same in both places. Friendly and pretty trustworthy.

The big one is which place would be easier to move to initially. For example, I loved living in Madison. You can’t beat the city as far as there is always something going on and it is a very safe place that has been consisitenly voted in the top 10 cities in America to live. The problem is the cost of living is pretty high, and the competition for jobs is fierce.

Upper Michigan in general is a beatiful place, but then again so is northern wisconsin. Once you get north of Green Bay, the rest of Wisconsin is very similar to the U.P.. The problem is the farther north you go, the harder it is to find good employment year round, with the U.P. being the worst for jobs.

Wisconsin has higher taxes than the U.P., but it also has a whole lot more as far as programs to help you get started and on your feet. Wisconsin has actually been in the news because the government health programs, housing assistance, job placement programs, education, etc are so good that we have people moving here just for those benefits.

Green Bay and the Fox River Valley extending down to Oshkosh, is probably the safest, best place for raising a family and the cost of living is very reasonable. The economy in this area is also the most stable so getting a good job that pays well is pretty easy. We have kind of watched the big recession in the news but didn’t feel much of the affects around here.

I guess there is a chance that I am biased because I am from the Green Bay area, but on the flip side, I could have lived anywhere in the state or U.P. and ended up here with no plans to ever leave. Plus, come on, we have the Green Bay Packers. How many cities have a stadium where virtually the entire city’s population could fit in it?

All kidding aside, if you do have any questions, feel free to ask.
