Gym Foreclosure

How do I relieve bad tension in my neck?

I recently started working out, for the first time in a long while. Now, my neck and shoulders have always been incredibly tense. I have bone spurs in my feet, and like everyone, a decent amount of stress in my life (foreclosure, taking in 4 younger siblings while my mom finds a house, starting college.. bleh). Anyway, the past few days the back of my neck and the middle of my shoulders just under my neck have been unbearably tight. To the point I’m so dizzy and my head is in such pain it’s hard to stand up. I work doing shipping full time, so it doesn’t help that I sit in front of a computer all day.

Once this month’s rent is paid I plan on getting (my first ever) a deep tissue massage and taking a break from the gym for a weekend since I have weekends off. Until then, anyone know of something I can do at work to help get me through the day? Stretching and rolling my head around isn’t working, and I can’t press hard enough to do anything by rubbing it.

Sounds like you pain is coming off the the base of your skull and pulling down. Your pain needs hands on treatment. You need a good positional release of the neck. Traps, scalenes and other muscles in this area are in need of treatment. Until you get your treatment, do some resistance movements, forward and back along with neck rotations. Try not to tense up and stretch, stretch, stretch!!!
