Foreclosure Support

Does child support cover part of mortgage?
Well I pay x amount in child support to the ex, she has a full time job and even though she makes good money plus what I pay her in child support she has let her house go into foreclosure. I believe that a certain amount of my child support is supposed to cover a portion of keeping a roof over the kids heads, but she has not made a mortgage payment in over a year. Could I get a modification ?
Or go for joint custody or full custody since she cannot control her spending enough to keep a home?
Sorry all this is in Michigan if it matters
Child support is meant to help with costs of child care, including mortgage payments. I’d be a little surprised if you got a change in custody based on your ex being in debt, though. My ex-wife could never control spending, and has gone through her halves of the savings, home equity, etc., and is now in an apartment. But she has custody. Tread carefully if you push this, and talk to a good lawyer or 3 – I can imagine that if your ex can’t keep a roof over your kid’s head, a judge might want you to help out with more support.
