Foreclosure Nj
DIDN’T PAY THE RENT FOR 2 MONTHS AFTER FORECLOSURE THEN MOVED, CAN I BE SUED?
I
I was renting an apartment in NJ then the building went to foreclosure, I moved after 2 months without paying the rent, I never had any lease neither with the landlord nor with the management company which put hands on the house after foreclosure and sent us letters that we have to pay them the rent, can any one sue me for the unpaid rent?
They can sue you if they can prove you were living there without paying rent for those 2 months and you will owe the 2 months rent; however, if you had no lease with the previous owner and the owners have changed, it’s unlikely the new owners will pursue the matter as you left without violating any lease agreement with them (they would also have to find you, verify your identity, etc. and that’s not as easy as it sounds).
