Have people forgotten what “the American Dream” really means?
All I see anymore is people looking for handouts. from corporate to individual bailouts. to people looking for the government to take care of them. for everyone thinking that they have the right to own a home.
Here is what the american dream really is has been
“The American Dream can be described as a belief in the freedom that allows all citizens and residents of the United States of America to achieve their goals in life through hard work. Today, in America it generally refers to the idea that one’s prosperity depends upon one’s own abilities and hard work, not on a rigid class structure”
It means that if you work hard enough, you can achieve what you want in life. Unforunately, I think people have concluded that you should be allowed to get everything in life without the need for hard work. Do a quick scan through the personal finance section here and you will find half of them are people looking for how to fix bad credit, make money quick, how to stop a foreclosure.
The American Dream seems to be the Cinderella story of rags to riches, which in actuality is few and far between; over-rated. People do have to work hard, but individualism has become a form of isolation. Asking for help makes a person weak, and responsibility for your fellow man is replaced with competitive, cut throat tactics to make it up “ladders” of success. Financial wealth surpasses emotional well being.
