What is the corelation between NAFTA causing harm to Ohio workers and Ohio cities in record foreclosures??
that pattern also seems to play out in other places that were impacted by NAFTA and so called free trade policies….like Detroit, etc… show me a free trade impacted area, and I will show you record foreclosures…
What people think about the jobs that left Ohio isn’t true. I live in Ohio, and my company arranged transportation of a lot of machinery off the factory floors here in Ohio to Mexico.
The jobs that left Ohio weren’t the union jobs. Not a single UAW job left Ohio. The jobs that left were non-union, tool and die jobs that had been outsourced to private contractors 30 to 40 years ago.
Another thing that has never been mentioned is the fact that for every factory job the left Ohio 5 other non-factory jobs were lost in the area. When thousands of workers leave a community, there less need for drug stores, restaurants, car dealerships, houses, and other supporting businesses.
There is less of a tax base for schools and other community projects. With less business, the tax burden on residence goes up.
All in all, it starts a cycle of decline that cannot be stopped.
