How is the 2nd wave of foreclosures affecting crime in local neighborhoods in the US?
~I’m surprised that so many people are simply giving up & walking away from their homes & leaving them in good condition!
~So far 3 homes in my area have gone vacant & the long time homeowners have abandoned ship & given the homes back to the banks!
~I sure don’t want to see these homes go downhill like the last batch of foreclosures have!
~Every street has @ least 1 home sitting in complete disrepair from vandals.
~These homes will have to become teardowns & no one wants to bid on or invest in a lemon.
~The crime rates have skyrocketed in the past 2 months & we’ve all had to invest in security lights & repair fences, after the vandals leave them broken & in disrepair.
This is in/was a nice small community & we never expected the crime to come here with such a fury.
I was wondering if anyone else was having these types of issues in their own neighborhoods & if so – what kinds of things are you & your neighbors doing to combat crime & protect your property?
I know that several years ago there were homeless people living in the woods which runs 3/4 of a mile on the edge of this neighborhood and goes clear to Walmart. There is a path through the woods that goes to Walmart and some of the homeless will go inside and steal food and spray paint to sniff, the police have found clusters of cans of it in the woods along with food trash and other items. A co-workers son and his friend was playing in those woods about 4 years ago and startled one who was rolled up in a carpet sleeping during the daytime. I don’t know exactly how foreclosures are affecting the crime rate but do know that there is an increase in home invasions, home robberies, and robberies of small businesses such as banks and even Dollar Stores. There was a rash of such robberies this summer. A hotel clerk was robbed last night at knife point here and a few hours later a man was found stabbed and unconscious next to a street. I don’t know how much of the crime is due to the economy and how much is due to use of drugs such as meth which is a common illegal drug here in Oklahoma.
