305 Foreclosure
need some advice, gonna buy a 1986 chevy caprice brougham tomorrow!?
it has 130,000 miles original with a 305 v8! it has a 4 month old paint job and the car looks mint inside out pretty much!
do u think i should buy it or no? and what should i look for before buying this car? and do u think its gonna last me a longtime before i throw a rebuilt engine in it?
the seller lost his house because of foreclosure and always kept it in his garage! he was asking $3500 and the lowest he will go is $2800 he said. and if u see the car its a steal! but he told me he gives it a lil gas to start it which kinda worried me but it is a carburetor.
I wouldn’t recommend it. Especially with 130,000 miles – a LOT of miles for an old 305. The transmission also is a big part – if it’s a TH200 it could well be a doorstop. The only things to check – obviously, oil leaks, tranny leaks, all leaks in general
. Look at all rubber hoses (feel for air leaks) as mid 80′s cars are notorious for their vacuum tube engineering. Tire tread goes without saying – could be 500$+ right off. If you are familiar with electrical you can also check grounds to the engine, tranny, and a few other important places.
Try to find one which is a few years older – you wouldn’t have to emissions test it and could have most of the vacuum tubes trashed to replace with mechanical parts. If this car is not old enough to register as a classic in your state – DONT BUY IT!
I guess this car’s value depends on how nostalgic you are with the Brougham class.
